The master of science in electrical engineering (M.S.E.E.) combines scholarship and research in a program oriented toward students and engineering practitioners in the private and public sectors who are interested in advanced coursework and applied research. The program requires 31 credits of graduate coursework and research, and focuses on core departmental strengths of communications and signal processing, VLSI and nanoscale optoelectronics, medical instrumentation and control systems, and intelligent transportation systems.

The preferred undergraduate GPA for admittance to the program
is 3.00.
An undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science. Applicants from related majors may apply but may be required to take additional undergraduate courses.

Program Requirements
Plan A: Plan A requires

A capstone project is required.
Capstone Project:The Plan B project is for those students or practicing engineers who wish to have a hands-on learning experience solving technical problems, preferably by teaming up with an industrial counterpart. Plan B students are required to take a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 project credits.
This program may be completed with a minor.
Use of 4xxx courses toward program requirements is permitted under certain conditions with adviser approval.
A minimum GPA of 3.00
is required for students to remain in good standing.
At least 1 semesters must be completed
before filing a Degree Program Form.
The master's degree requires at least 31 credits. It is offered under two plans. Plan A involves writing a thesis and Plan B involves additional course work and a project in lieu of the thesis.
Plan A: Thesis Option Students must complete a minimum of 31 semester credits in graduate courses, including thesis credits. At least 15 credits must be electrical and computer engineering courses with at least 6 credits in courses numbered 4xxx or higher, 6 credits in courses numbered 5xxx or higher, and at least 3 credits in courses at 8xxx. An additional 6 credits must be taken in a minor or related field outside of ECE. The remaining 10 credits should be thesis credits.
Plan B: Project Option Students must complete a minimum of 31 credits in graduate courses, including project credits. The project credits should be at least 1 and at most 3. A total of 6 credits must be taken in a minor or related field outside of ECE. The remaining 23 or 24 credits must be ECE courses with at least 6 credits in courses numbered 4xxx or higher, 6 credits in courses numbered 5xxx or higher, and at least 3 credits in 8xxx courses.
