French Studies Minor

World Languages & Cultures
College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences
  • Program Type: Undergraduate minor related to major
  • Requirements for this program are current for Fall 2017
  • Required credits in this minor: 12 to 32
  • Study abroad will be strongly encouraged, to be determined by student interest and focus, throughout the French-speaking world. Our program will work to facilitate the achievement of University of Minnesota system-wide goals, which call for 50 percent of students to participate in a study abroad experience.
The French Studies minor complements any liberal arts degree. French has been the language of a major world culture for centuries and is the traditional language of the arts and philosophy. As global commerce and communication become the norm, French shares status with English as one of the two official languages of the European community and provides a solid basis for careers in business, law, human services, and diplomacy.
