Note: Entry to the M.S. program is available on a very restricted basis. Please contact the director of graduate studies to obtain details about admission. The pharmaceutics program offers emphases in physical pharmacy, biopharmaceutics, and pharmacokinetics. Minor fields of particular value include biochemistry, biometry, chemistry, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, pharmacology, and statistics.

Prerequisites for Admission
The preferred undergraduate GPA for admittance to the program is 3.20.
Other requirements to be completed before admission:
Undergraduate (and graduate, if applicable) scholastic records, recent GRE scores, a statement of career goals and research interests, and three letters of recommendation. International applicants must submit results from the TOEFL or IELTS. These collectively are used to determine each candidate's admissibility. Prefer "First Class" or the equivalent on transcripts from foreign institutions. Fall admission is preferred and the deadline to apply is December 31. Students can receive a free evaluation of the competitiveness of their credentials by completing the pre-application form on the pharmaceutics website [www.pharmacy.umn.edu/pharmaceutics].
Applicants must submit their test score(s) from the following:
  • GRE
    • General Test - Analytical Writing: 4.0
International applicants must submit score(s) from one of the following tests:
  • TOEFL
    • Internet Based - Total Score: 100
    • Internet Based - Speaking Score: 23
  • IELTS
    • Total Score: 26.0
The preferred English language test is Test of English as Foreign Language.

Program Requirements
Plan A: Plan A requires 14 major credits, 6 credits outside the major, and 10 thesis credits. The final exam is oral.
This program may not be completed with a minor.
Use of 4xxx courses toward program requirements is permitted under certain conditions with adviser approval.
A minimum GPA of 3.00 is required for students to remain in good standing.
The Plan A M.S. degree requires a total of 20 credits in upper-division coursework of which 6 credits must be outside the major as well as 10 master's thesis credits. A master's thesis must also be prepared and defended. A complete list of degree program requirements may be found on the pharmaceutics website.
