Duluth Campus
Economics B.B.A.Economics & Health Care Management
Labovitz School of Business and Economics
Economics is the study of social, business, and individual decision making and the goals, incentives, institutions, and constraints affecting those decisions.
The University of Minnesota Duluth offers students a choice of two undergraduate degrees in economics: a bachelor of business administration (BBA) degree and a bachelor of arts (BA) degree. This provides economics majors with the opportunity to pursue the college core curriculum that is most suited to their interests and career goals. Any department faculty member will be happy to discuss the two options and advise you as to which degree choice will likely make the most sense. Also department faculty welcomes and encourages student interaction with other students and the faculty through activities such as UROP projects, Omicron Delta Epsilon (honorary society for economics), Economics Club, and other activities and events.
Features of the Economics BBA include:
* Specialize in business: focus your major on the business-related aspects of economics.
* Essential business training in economics, accounting, finance, marketing, and management.
* The option of not having an additional minor or major. Opportunities to get paid or earn credits while working with faculty on research.
* Careers in many areas including finance, banking, energy, retail, insurance, antitrust and regulation, etc. Also, economics majors are often qualified for many jobs that include the word “Analyst” in the title. Ask a faculty member for specific examples.
* Training for graduate school in economics and management (for example, MBA).
Note: students pursuing the BBA in Economics are not permitted to also receive a BA in Economics.
LSBE Program Honors Requirement: GPA of all upper division (3xxx or higher) courses taken from LSBE.
Program Delivery
This program is available:
Admission Requirements
Freshman and transfer students are usually admitted to pre-major status
before admission to this major.
For admission to the major, the preferred GPA is: 2.60 or better cumulative UMD overall GPA; 2.60 or better University of Minnesota cumulative GPA; 2.00 or better pre-major coursework GPA. Freshmen and transfer students are typically admitted as pre-business students. Admission to candidacy status, which allows access to upper division LSBE classes, typically occurs at the end of the sophomore year when students have successfully completed all pre-major (pre-candidacy) course requirements and met all of the GPA standards. Students with 2.60 overall GPA and 2.0 internal and pre-major GPAs are admitted upon completion of pre-major courses; students with 2.00-2.59 overall GPA and 2.00 internal and pre-major GPAs are pooled and reviewed for evidence of academic success in LSBE majors. Students who do not qualify for admission to candidacy may not take upper division LSBE courses (excluding some economics courses) without permission of the Director of the LSBE Advising and Academic
