This interdisciplinary, self-designed Master of Professional Studies program prioritizes applied research skills, creative and innovative problem-solving, socially conscious leadership, and the integration of theory and practice across disciplines. By engaging multiple disciplinary approaches to a selected problem, students develop their capacity to identify, delineate, and research key problems, building an empowered learning approach to their own professional studies. With a “Plan B” project-based structure, the Multidisciplinary Research & Creativity program consists of three core courses (12 credits) and 18 credits of course work (for a total of 30 credits) across disciplines, along with a Plan B capstone project and oral exam. Earning the degree of MPS (Master of Professional Studies), students join a cadre of students nationally and internationally who seek applied, interdisciplinary graduate study to develop and enhance their professional studies.
The Plan B project can be expected to develop as an expansion of work done in a course or another topic of special interest, and can be constituted through multiple research papers, participatory media products, or other learning objects. Plan B papers, projects, media, or other objects are submitted to the examining committee before the student's final oral presentation and examination and represent 100 hours of independent research.

Other requirements to be completed before admission:
Completed applications should include official transcripts, an essay delineating their reasons for pursuing the MPS in Multidisciplinary Research & Creativity and describing their education and career experiences, and three letters of recommendation from persons in a position to evaluate the applicant's potential for success. Scores on the Graduate Record Exam or an equivalent exam should be submitted as well if taken. At this time GRE scores are preferred but not required.

This program may be completed with a minor.
Use of 4xxx courses toward program requirements is permitted under certain conditions with adviser approval.
Multidisciplinary Requirements (18 cr)
Remaining credits from social sciences and humanities courses within the College of Liberal Arts that carry graduate credit. These courses can be taken outside of CLA with approval from extra-collegiate faculty members. Use of 4xxx courses toward program requirements is permitted under certain conditions with advisor and director of graduate studies approval.
