Professional Writing MinorEnglish Linguistics and Writing Studies

The professional writing minor develops writing, reading, and rhetorical expertise relevant to professional communication. Emphasizing the production and analysis of texts and practice in varied writing techniques, the minor also provides a foundation in the study of professional writing as a field of inquiry.

Minor Requirements
Students majoring in Writing Studies in either emphasis (Professional Writing or Journalism) must complete a minor or second major in a field other than Journalism, Professional Writing, or Information Design.
Upper Division Core in Writing (6 cr)
The WRIT 31xx - Advanced Writing course requirement within a major may also apply to this requirement.
WRIT 31xx - Adv Writ (3.0 cr)
WRIT 4250 - New Media Writing

Professional Writing Electives (12 cr)
Students must take 4 different courses. No more than 3 credits of WRIT 4591 and/or WRIT 4197 may be applied to the minor. Selected COMM, ENGL, FMIS, JOUR, LING, TH or other relevant coursework, as appropriate to the plan of study for the student with department approval.
