The information design minor gives students 1) knowledge and experience with information technologies from a liberal arts perspective; 2) practice in applying principles of rhetoric, design, cultural theory, ethics, and creative thinking to the production of information-design projects; 3) the ability to write about and discuss information-design practices and digital culture in critically informed ways; 4) experience in developing successful creative relationships with writing/design communities, clients, audiences, and support staff; 5) skills in using a variety of software. Students majoring in Writing Studies in either emphasis (Professional Writing or Journalism) must complete a minor or second major in a field other than Journalism, Professional Writing, or Information Design.
