German Minor

The minor in German includes the study of the spoken language, as well as the literature, philology, and culture of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

Minor Requirements
Students are required to complete 4 semester(s) of German. with a grade of C-, or better, or S, or demonstrate proficiency in the language(s) as defined by the department or college.
The minor consists of a minimum of 16 credits in 3xxx, 4xxx (beyond 4004), and 5xxx courses with no more than one course being a directed or independent study. Courses that are taught in English may be used for the minor if substantial work is done in German, as directed by the instructor of the courses or by the director of undergraduate studies. The four required semesters of a second language do not factor into the overall length of credits in the minor. All courses must be taken A-F and must be completed with a grade of C- or better. At least one course must be taken in the German program at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus. Students with a German, Scandinavian, Dutch major may elect a minor in German, but no courses may count for both the major and the minor. The program must be approved by the director of undergraduate studies.
